OOTD: Pop of color

On Saturday, Hubby and I stepped out for a bit of shopping, and this is what I wore.  Granted, it’s not very summery, except for my little yellow purse, but it’s totally me Smile

Waity, Katie Lips ‘n Tips

I have been lusting after butterLondon’s No More Waity, Katie lip gloss since the first time I saw it on their website.  Until recently it was exclusive to the site, and as much as I love butter’s polishes, I do NOT love their shipping charges.  So I have been waiting (ha).  Last week I discovered the purple tinged loveliness on drugstore.com, and having a few of their rewards bucks to spend, I took the plunge and placed the order.

CIMG4853

It comes in a clear plastic squeeze tube with a chiseled tip for applicating.  ‘No More Waity, Katie’ is printed in gold; quite posh.  Winking smile

Once squeezed out, the gloss itself is a pale mauvey color with huge lavender sparkles, not unlike the Waity Katie polish.

CIMG4859

CIMG4864

On the lips, it is quite sheer, lending just the slightest purple tinge to the lips when first applied.  The caveat?  The huge purple sparkles STAY on the lips.  They don’t blend in at all, which completely freaked me out.

CIMG4867

Maybe if it were *more* sparkly I would be okay with it?  The random sparkles look like I’ve been making smoochy faces on my kids’ art projects.

CIMG4876

It does have a pretty sheen to it, and I wish that I could get over the obnoxious glitter.  This could maybe work for a clubbing look, but for me as an everyday gloss, it’s a no go.  So, as much as I love my Waity, Katie nail polish, the gloss is going back to drugstore.com.  Boo Sad smile

Just for fun, here is today’s NOTD….in celebration of the gloss (before I tried it!!) I am wearing the Waity, Katie polish over butter’s Marrow, which is a dark purple crème.  I love how the dark purple base lets Katie’s sparkles really shine!

OOTD: The perfect maxi dress

I won’t own up to how many times I’ve worn this dress in the last month and a half or so, but let’s just say my friends are probably sick of seeing it Smile

I purchased it from oldnavy.com last summer, and it’s faaaabulous.  This style happened to come in petite sizes, which made the length perfect with a pair of sandals with a small platform.  The slight a-line and tie under the bust keeps the dress flowy, but I don’t look shapeless or prego in it.  If only I could find more like it!!

Get Shellac’d

Is it just me, or does that sound like something that would happen at a frat party?  Or maybe I’ve had too much wine before blogging?  Haha Smile  At any rate, my friend Laura and I went for a Shellac mani yesterday morning.  I’ve had it done before and LOVE the way it wears.  It really does last for two weeks or more, so I think it’s perfect for a vacation or special event.  I chose Rock Royalty this time, which is a dark purple with subtle pink shimmer.  Check it out!

Have you ever tried Shellac/Axxium/other gel manicure?  Thoughts?

NOTD: ManGlaze Blue!

Today’s mani is brought to you by ManGlaze (which Hubby thinks is hysterical, btw) The color is called “Blue!”, which is actually a shocking matte pink.  ManGlaze is known for their matte polishes targeted at guys, but they have developed a cult following in the blogosphere for their other colors, Matte is Murder and Fuggen Ugly.

Blue! (also being sold under the more rock-n-roll name of Fuck Off And Dye!) is one of their latest colors, and this is what the company has to say about it:

“Debuting in our limited edition caution tape label, ManGlaze brings you our exclusive matte finish now in fucking pink! We decided to release it early because of all the nonsense in the news about nail polish turning little boys into little girls. The name of this color pretty much sums up our opinion on the matter. Use with a base coat or it'll dye your nails pink. “

As for the reason the polish was released, I completely agree with the company.  Boys wearing nail polish is by no means going to make them girly, and if either of my boys choose to wear polish, I am all for it.  If this is the most pressing thing worrying our society, I would say that we are all living pretty good lives.  Anyway, on to the pictures.

CIMG4595

This is two coats.  I’m usually not a huge fan of matte polishes, but I actually kind of like this as a matte.  But just for fun I added a coat of CND effects Amethyst Sparkle.

Look at that sparkle and shine!  (excuse the excess polish on my cuticles and the wrinkly old-lady hands.  I need to invest in some AHA hand crème, stat!)

Here it is again in the sun.  Pink is usually not a ‘me’ color, but I can’t stop staring at my hands.  Love the artwork on the bottle, too.  If you want '”pinky fingers and pinky toes” as well, ManGlaze polishes are available on their website, http://manglaze.com/buy.html

NOTD: That’s Duchess Catherine, to you

In honour of the excitement over the royal wedding today, butterLondon’s No More Waity, Katie is the nail polish du jour.  This special-edition polish has a semi-sheer greyish purple (grurple? prey?) base with lavender glitter.  Waity, Katie has gotten hot and cold reviews in the blogosphere.  It’s either loved or hated, and I am on the ‘love’ side.  Using a heavy hand, I can get it opaque in two coats, although in the pictures below I added a third.  Check it out!

No More Waity, Katie is available exclusively through butterLondon’s website, www.butterlondon.com

How are you celebrating William and Catherine’s wedding day?

A-England nail polish: Elaine and King Arthur

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a relatively new nail varnish line called a-england.  Created by former fashion designer Adina Bodana, this line celebrates the gothic romance of the legend of Camelot.  Smitten with the pictures I saw on other blogs, I placed an order.

First up is Elaine, an AMAZINGLY beautiful purple cream.  I have quite a few purple creams in my collection, all of which lean more toward black, especially indoors.  Elaine is the only one that I have that looks purple in every light!!
CIMG4541
This polish applied like a dream; it’s somewhat thin but not runny or streaky.  For such a dark color, it was remarkably easy to work with.  This was two coats.

Next is King Arthur, a smoky charcoal with multicolor sparkles.  I’ve been looking for *the* perfect dark grey polish for ages now, and I think this one is IT.

Just like Elaine, application of this one was a snap.  Both colors wore well; I easily got 4 or 5 days out of them before minor tip wear started to show.
I also picked up Lady of the Lake, which seems to be one of the more popular polishes from the collection.  It’s a unique purple holo, which I’ll post pictures of later this week.  I am in LOVE with these polishes, and I will be going back for a second order soon!  Customer service is amazing, and shipping from the UK is reasonable and FAST!!
The line is 3 free and not tested on animals.
Check them out at www.a-england.co.uk .  For another week or so, you can ‘like’ them on Facebook and receive a code for 20% off your purchase.  They are DEFINITELY worth taking a peek at.
